Microsoft Office is available in different versions. Then there is Office 365, a subscription service. It works in both browser and desktop applications. It also works with all versions of Office that Microsoft has released over the years: Office 2019,
office 2016 license and Office 2013, and things get confused quickly.
For those who wish to install and run two versions of the Office suite in Windows 10, certain requirements must be met.
1. CONFLICTS
If possible, you should avoid installing multiple versions of Office on the same Windows 10 computer. This will cause all kinds of problems and may or may not work.
Another problem could be the file format. Microsoft has used the patented DOC format for all files created in Word. This changed with the release of Office 2007 when Microsoft began using the DOCX format. The same applies to other office applications. Everyone has x at the end.
2. LICENSE AND KEY
You need an official CD and a product key to install and activate an earlier version of Microsoft Office. Even if you can install it with an .exe installation file, you need a key to activate it. Otherwise, you will have to support the constant pop-ups that ask you to update Office.
There are two types of licenses. One is the OEM license, which is not transferable. In this case, the office suite has been preinstalled on your computer. The other is a retail license that you purchased separately and comes with a key and a CD.
The good news is that Microsoft has forgiven users who install Office 2013 and earlier versions on two computers. The case is different for 2016 and later versions. They track these licenses and the computers on which they are installed.
3. VERSIONS YOU CAN INSTALL
You cannot install Office 365 and the family or professional version of Office 2019, Office 2016 and Office 2013 on the same Windows 10 computer. This is only possible if a version of Office with MSI has been installed. In this case, you can install a different version of Office on the same Windows 10 computer and use it correctly.
4. APPLICATIONS IN THE AUTONOMOUS OFFICE
Some users only have Word or Excel installed on their computers because they do not need or use any other Office application. The following pop-up window appears when you install a different version of Office on the same Windows 10 computer.
Microsoft recommends that you select the "Install anyway" option to replace it because the two applications cannot be present at the same time. An exception to this rule is that the standalone Office application is not part of the set of Office applications that you are installing. In this case, it will not be deleted. An example can be if you installed Word 2007 and are trying to install Office 2019.
5. INCOMPATIBLE WITH RDS
Remote Desktop Service is a Microsoft product that allows users to virtually access other Windows computers from a remote location. Microsoft declares that several versions of the Office suite are not compatible with that computer.
You must disable Remote Desktop Service or remove it completely to make it work. This can be a problem because the behavior of these two products cannot be determined precisely if you disable them and install a different version of Office and then re-enable RDS. The result may vary depending on the version number of your operating system and the versions of Office installed.
6. FOLLOW THE VERSION SEQUENCE
You must first install the previous version of Office before you can install the latest version. Take an example. If you want to install Office 2007 and Office 2016, you must install the version of Office 2007 before installing the version of Office 2016.
What happens if I already have the Office 2016 version? In this case, you must remove it and install both in the correct order.
7. SELECT THE 32 BIT OR 64 BIT CORRECT VERSION
You can't mix them. This will cause all kinds of conflicts. It depends on whether you have a 32-bit computer or a 64-bit computer. Both versions of Office must be of the same bit. To verify, press the Windows key + E to open File Explorer and right click on this PC to select Properties.
You can check the architecture, memory, Windows edition of your computer and more. Write it down, then download and install the correct versions of Office on the same computer.
8. VERSION COMBINATION
