Important Things You Shouldn’t Sacrifice For an Engagement Ring

An engagement ring is important (not to mention a costly) purchase, so it is important that you think carefully about the decision. There are three things that you should never, ever compromise on or sacrifice when searching for the perfect ring for your sweetheart – finances, quality and style. We’ve taken a closer look at each of these things in the list below:

• Finances
You should never sacrifice your finances in order to purchase a ring, no matter how beautiful it is or how much your significant other loves it. It is ridiculous to expect anyone to spend the equivalent of three months’ salary, not to mention completely unnecessary.

It is supposed to represent the love of a couple – anyone who wants the love of their life to take on significant financial stress is not someone you want to be marrying. That money would be better spent on a down payment for a house, to pay off student debt, on the wedding or even on an amazing honeymoon.

• Quality
Typically, an engagement ring is worn every day and is rarely taken off, so you should never compromise on its quality if you want to ensure it will last. Insist on a piece that has integrated prongs, as it will keep your stone(s) secure for many years to come.

Be aware that many mass-market jewelers use rings that are hollow inside to save on metal costs. This actually decreases the quality and durability of the piece. Ensure that the band is made from solid metal – either gold, platinum, silver or whatever metal you have chosen.

•Style
This is a ring that your loved one will wear every day, so they should love everything about it. They shouldn’t have to settle for a tiny diamond if they had their heart set on a 2-carat solitaire. Likewise, they shouldn’t have to settle for a simple design if they really love the look of a halo.

But you shouldn’t sacrifice on the grade of a diamond just to get something larger – a stone with poor colour and lots of inclusions won’t look all that beautiful anyway. But is it possible to have everything you want without sacrificing on financial security? Of course – you don’t have to choose a mined diamond, or even a diamond at all.

If you are in the process of shopping for an engagement ring or will be sometime in the near future, we hope that the information provided above has shown you what you shouldn’t sacrifice no matter what. No price can be placed on your future financial security or on a ring that your significant other loves and that will stand the test of time with ease.
