There are three things that you should never, ever compromise on or sacrifice when searching for the perfect ring for your sweetheart – finances, quality and style. Be aware that many mass-market jewelers use rings that are hollow inside to save on metal costs. This actually decreases the quality and durability of the piece. Ensure that the band is made from solid metal – either gold, platinum, silver or whatever metal you have chosen.

•Style
This is a ring that your loved one will wear every day, so they should love everything about it. They shouldn’t have to settle for a tiny diamond if they had their heart set on a 2-carat solitaire. Likewise, they shouldn’t have to settle for a simple design if they really love the look of a halo.

But you shouldn’t sacrifice on the grade of a diamond just to get something larger – a stone with poor colour and lots of inclusions won’t look all that beautiful anyway. But is it possible to have everything you want without sacrificing on financial security? Of course – you don’t have to choose a mined diamond, or even a diamond at all.
