Defog Your Prescription Scuba Mask

There is nothing better when scuba diving than to see all the amazing wildlife and creatures of the sea along with all the amazing colors. In order to take all this in and see it clearly you will need to make sure that you prepare your scuba mask before you jump in the water.  If not, then your view will be seen through a hazy fog.

If this is your first time scuba diving you may be tempted to try your new scuba mask out in the bathtub but you first need to do some things.  The prescription scuba mask uses tempered glass.  This type of glass contains a layer of file from the company that manufactured it so it has to be removed before you wear it.  You cannot touch or see this film but it will cause the mask to be super foggy, even if you use a lot of products on it to defog it.

Some of the ways that you can defog your mask include:

  • Commercial defogger—this product you will have to purchase at a shop that deals with scuba gear. There are many types of these commercial products. To help narrow your choice down look for ones that is environmentally friendly and is safe for using in a reef.  With these you will just put some inside the mask, whoosh it around using your fingers and rinse them off completely.  Once this is done you just put them on and go.

  • Au Naturate—this is a special way of defogging your scuba mask in that your body generates it naturally. It is your saliva.  All you need to do is spit into your mask but make sure that it is completely dry.  After you spit in it, rinse it off after rubbing the spit around and then you are ready to dive.  If you do it by taking your mask off in the water it can cause it to become foggy when you dive.

  • Dishwashing soap or baby shampoo—this method is the least expensive way. It is best if you mix equal parts water and baby shampoo or dishwashing soap and keep it in a bottle so you can have it when you need it.  Remember to rinse it after using it as the soapy residue can sting your eyes.

Any of these methods will also work on your prescription snorkel mask Australia. To keep your mask from fogging up make sure that the lens is not dirty before you try to defog.  And you should always defog it before you go in the water but make sure that it is rinsed out just before you dive in.  Your face should not be sweaty either.
