What Is Diversity


 


Diversity is usually always thought of as people from different races or cultures and this is correct. Diversity should not be limited to one definition because diversity really covers a very broad spectrum. There is diversity between men and women as well. Men and women think different in general and within each culture. Diversity can be labeled as a behavior that is a conscious practice. There are different aspects of diversity it is the understanding and appreciation of humanity and of other people's culture. It is having a mutual respect for everyone regardless if you agree or disagree with their thought process or with the way that they live. Diversity is coming together as a team regardless of sex, race, or religion so we can abolish discrimination.


 


Workplace Diversity 


 


Workplace diversity is not just about race but it is also about women who get discriminated upon in the workplace. Women also get discriminated upon in certain job sectors like engineering, policeman, fireman, mechanics, and pilots. Usually when people  think that all these career choices should be for men only but they are wrong. There should be more women software engineers, commercial pilots, mechanics, and so forth. I know that it could be tough when a female is working in a predominantly male industry such as a female software engineer, commercial pilot, firefighter, or policemen but it is beneficial to society because women are problem solve differently than men and often have better ideas. Women also make some of the best leaders in our society. I think that the leadership trait comes naturally to women because of motherhood. If you think about it a mother is a leader of her children. She leads them down the path that they should go in life. So having sexual diversity as well as cultural diversity in any workplace should be looked at as an asset and can only strengthen a company in many different faccids. 


 


Advantages Of Diversity In Upper Management


 


More women are needed in upper management positions as well. They can be more understanding and have more patience with employees. A research study that was performed in 2017 by young lady named Sheryl Sandberg shows that there are not a lot of women in upper management positions despite the so-called progression that has supposedly been made. There is just 1 out of every 10 executives in corporate America that are women. Gender diversity is not just about giving a women a seat at the table. It should be about an advancing the smartest and most creative women in corporate America. If a woman has earned she should be rewarded for her business savvy and hardwork. If the promotions are done fairly and the proper women are put into leadership roles because of their leadership capabilities this can lead to vast improvements in a company. The company will see improvements in the areas of productivity, creativity, profits, low employee turnover, more employee engagement, and it could even improve a company's reputation. Corporations should re-evaluate themselves and see the importance of having sexual diversity in the workplace. If you really do the research you will see in most cases that companies that are started by woman or who have women in high power corporate management position are very successful.
