Best Methods to Removing a Blood Stain from Mattress

Does your mattress need to be cleaned? There are quite a few techniques to cleaning a mattress and keeping, or making it fresh.

METHOD 1 : The first obvious solution is to vacuum your mattress. Whenever a mattress gets wet it is easier for stains to form due to the matter in the dirt. A good hoovering will help get rid of this excess dirt, and wet or not, there will be nothing to soak into your mattress in the first place.

METHOD 2: Another good way to clean your mattress is to use enzyme cleaners. Most of these cleaners are very successful in breaking down stains. For any unidentified stain, it is better to use a cleaning solution with citrus, simply spray the stain, let sit for at least ten minutes then blot the stain. Rubbing it will typically cause more spreading of the dirt than removing.

METHOD 3: Mold or mildew on you mattress? Don’t throw it out just yet! Start by taking it outside on a nice warm day and let both sides dry out any, and all moisture. Afterwards try and remove all excess mold or mildew by sweeping or wiping it off then vacuum both sides of the mattress, just be sure to dispose of the bag after vacuuming to help prevent spreading the spores to any another area of your household. The next step is to mix an equal amount of alcohol and warm water, then sponge the mattress with the mixed water and alcohol. Just be safe, use an isopropyl based alcohol for the best results. The final step is to spray the mattress with a common disinfectant like Lysol or Clorox to destroy the extra spores that might be lingering about.

METHOD 4: Trying to remove a stain caused by a colored drink? The most common and to my experience the best method for removing a stain in this category is by using vinegar. Apply the vinegar to the colored stain by spraying or using a clean white cloth. The acid in the vinegar will help remove most of these stains. The second step is to apply rubbing alcohol to the stain after spraying it with the vinegar. This will help remove most of what is left from the stain. Just be sure to apply the alcohol with a clean absorbent cloth instead of just pouring it onto the stain.

METHOD 5: A lot of you may be wondering what the best method may be for removing a blood stain, well here is a great method I have used for years. First you want to apply hydrogen peroxide to the stained area and be sure to blot the stain while it is bubbling for the best results. This usually will not remove the entire stain but will help remove a good portion of it, and like always, be sure to use a clean white cloth when blotting the stained area. Another good method for removing blood is to create a baking soda solution, simply mix twice the amount of cold water to the amount of baking soda you decide to use. Then apply the solution to the stain by once again using a clean white cloth and let sit for around thirty minutes. After the solution sets use a separate damped cold water wash cloth to rinse out any of the solution that may still be on the stain. Your final step would be to apply any absorbent material to the wet stain to help it dry much quicker.
