How Lacrosse Balls Are Effective For Self Myofascial Release

Do you suffer from tightness, stiffness, muscle, or hip pain?
From a desk job, being sedentary, working out, or just daily aches and pains?

A lacrosse ball is our favourite tool to self-release those annoying trigger points!

What is a trigger point?

A trigger point is generally an area of discomfort which can also refer pain somewhere else, for example having upper back stiffness or pain when turning your neck may be a trigger point response if you feel it refer into the head (headaches) or into another muscle group.

All our products including the lacrosse ball comes with corrective exercise sheets explaining how to self-release every muscle which gives you pain or discomfort in the body.

Use the ball on the trigger point to hold the spot for 60-120 seconds until the pain seems to ease off, I do recommend to do it against a wall as you can control the pressure into the trigger point. If it’s too painful you can ease off and if you would like to put more pressure into the spot you can push harder. Rather than on the floor there is no give, so you cannot control the pressure depending on the spot you are trying to release.

The exercise sheets explain how to release the most common trigger points in the body, which are written by our health professional to ensure you are in safe hands.

After 4 years of study and numerous years working with elite athletes, AFL players, gym environments, there is nothing better than a lacrosse ball as a temporary pain relief for the price of $10 it’s more than a bargain! . As always seek a health professional if you do not understand how to use it or contact us below and we will be more than happy to help out!

The only contraindication is to not apply pressure on the spine, any joint doesn’t respond well to direct pressure e.g. neck, back, elbow, knees. Lacrosse balls are used to relieve muscular pain and allow more movement, mobility around the joints.
This is why we speak so highly of a lacrosse ball if used correctly, you can use it at work, on a holiday, at the gym as a warm up, at home if you wake up stiff, literally anywhere!

Can you use a Tennis Ball?

Unlike tennis balls, lacrosse balls are hard and dense. They don't soften under pressure. Lacrosse balls can be used as a powerful massage device that can help relieve pain and improve function in sore muscles.
Lacrosse ball massage is a form of self-myofascial release.

What are the benefits of lacrosse ball massage?
• Increase joint range of motion
• Help muscle performance
• Decrease fatigue after exercise
• Decrease soreness after exercise
Self-myofascial release is best after a workout, but you can also do it whenever you remember throughout the day. It only takes a few minutes. Just like stretching, the best results are seen after consistent practice.
