A Brief Guide to Shaving, Plucking or Waxing Before an Organic Spray Tan

Removing any hair is an important part of a great tan. If you want a flawless, natural looking tan, you will want to ensure that your skin is silky smooth. However, it is important that you time your plucking, waxing, and shaving before the tanning process for the best results.

Shaving:

Shaving is one of the most common methods of hair removal, but it can impair the organic spray tan process if you don’t time it correctly. You should shave only the night before and resist the urge to go over your with your razor after that. When you are shaving, you are not only removing any unwanted hair but also exfoliating the skin. Exfoliating is also an important step in getting a tan, effectively you doing two tasks in one. For a super smooth finish, trying going over each spot twice with your razor. After you have had your sunless spray tan, you should try shaving as little as you can. Remember that every time you shave, you are exfoliating your skin and thereby reducing the lifespan of your new tan.

Waxing:

If you like to wax away any unwanted hair, you need to think well in advance of your organic spray tan. Ideally, waxing should only happen one or two days before your tanning appointment. This will mean that your skin is smooth and hair free, but also that your skin has enough time to recover. When your skin is freshly waxed, it will have open pores. While this may not seem like a massive problem, spraying organic tanning solution into your open pores could create skin irritation. By allowing a day or two before your tan, it will give your pores the time needed to close. You will need to ensure that any traces of wax are removed from your skin, as it could create a barrier for the solution and create a blotchy finish.

Plucking:

In a similar way to wax hair removal, plucking your unwanted hair will open up the pores. This means that you will still need time for the pores to close. If you are only plucking the odd hair, then it should be okay to do a little plucking on the day of your tan appointment. If you do find you need to pluck, try holding an ice cube against the area for ten seconds, to encourage your pores to close. However, you should not pluck before you shower following the tan application as it will compromise the overall finished look.
