Work and Holiday visa (Subclass 462) allocations for Indonesians increase to 5,000 places annually

Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has announced as part of the 2019 Federal Budget that Indonesian nationals will be allocated 5,000 spots annually for the Work and Holiday visa (Subclass 462), up from 2,500 spots annually. This announcement has come as part of a Landmark Australia-Indonesia free trade agreement.


The Work & Holiday visa will authorise Indonesians to travel to Australia for an extended holiday of 12 months, whilst allowing the holiday makers to study and/ or work full time, 6 months per employer.


To be eligible for the Work & Holiday visa, you must meet the following criteria



  • Aged between 18 to 30 years old.

  • Hold a valid passport.

  • Obtain a letter of support from your government.

  • Have not previously held a Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417) or a Work & Holiday visa (Subclass 462)

  • Must hold tertiary qualifications or have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate university studies.

  • Must show evidence of funds, usually a minimum of AUD$5,000 in your bank account.

  • Must meet the English, Health and Character requirements.
