Babycare101: Things Every Parent Should Know

Caring for a baby is not as simple as it sounds. Something many parents can attest to. Babies as precious as they are can be tough to take care of even when you do it with love. This is because a baby is completely dependent on you so you need to care of their every aspect form dressing them up to feeding them and while your baby’s giggle will make up for all the work you do, it is best for parents to know the following things.

Your Baby Will Cry A Lot

Something nearly all parents have difficulty with, especially at the beginning of parenthood is the tears. Babies cry a lot and this can be difficult for parents to handle. Especially so because it is stressful. Coupled with the fact that they are new to parenthood and the anxiety of doing the wrong thing, hearing a baby cry all the time can be extremely stressful and difficult. However, the thing you need to know is that babies can only communicate through their tears as they haven’t yet developed speech. So they cry when one of their needs have to be fulfilled. In the beginning, all their cries will sound the same but as you get used to it, you will realize that there are particular characteristics that make their cries different depending on their need. Of course, no baby is alike so the way they cry won’t be the same but if you listen to the way cry and see how they respond when you try to take care of the problem, you may be able to notice what each cry is meant for.

TheirSafety Should Be Your Priority

As a parent, it’s your duty to ensure that the environment your baby grows in is one that is safe. When a baby is a newborn try to ensure that their sleeping area is safe for them. Do not have pillows too close to the baby especially when they cannot turn over by themselves. Try to ensure that the cot has no padding which could unintentionally asphyxiate the child. Always use products that are FDA approved for consumption. Even something like a baby carrier needs to be chosen with care. So look for a baby bjorn active carrier which is made of durable materials and designed in a way that will not hurt your baby.

Be Careful When Taking Care Of Their Hygiene

When you see the umbilical stump, it might be tempting to give it a wash, but do not do this. To avoid infection, the area needs to be kept clean but dry. You may wipe it with a soft cloth, but don’t try to wipe it clean with water. The same goes if your baby boy was circumcised. Keep the area clean but always dry. If your baby has teeth, then try to keep it clean by using a washcloth. There are also finger brushes, tooth wipes and event infant toothbrushes that you could purchase. You can start right away with the cavity-fighting fluoride toothpaste but ensure that the amount you use is like a grain of rice. It should be very small.

Ultimately baby care can be tiring but by paying heed to the above, it will be easier to care for them.
