Avoid storing plants & animals

Plants and animals must not be stored in a storage unit. They will not receive adequate oxygen, ventilation or light when they are kept in a storage unit. Additionally, plants and animals can invite pests and bugs to the storage unit.

Avoid storing perishable things

It is not recommended to store perishable things in storage units. For instance, food could get spoiled speedily in a storage unit. This will attract pests and other unwanted bugs.

Never store lethal, dangerous or unlawful substance

Never store fertilisers, radioactive medical supplies or chemicals in a self storage unit. The items can cause a chemical spill or fire in or around the storage units.

Never store combustible or explosive items

Paint thinners, gas, cleaning fluids, oil, fireworks or anything in an aerosol must not be stored in self storage units. When these items are under a lot of pressure from severe heat, they can burst into flames.

Prohibited items

You should never store prohibited or stolen items in self storage units. Ammunition and firearms including antique firearms must not be stored in self storage units.

Expensive things

Never store expensive things like jewellery, precious metals or coins in self storage units. These things are at higher risk of being stolen. It is recommended to store such high-value items in a safe deposit locker.

Always check with your storage facility and go through the list of “prohibited” items. You should never risk your personal belongings and the belongings of other renters around by storing these prohibited things.

Hills Self Storage provides various storage options that include business storage, boat, car and caravan storage, wine storage and personal storage in Sydney.
