Two of the most popular window furnishings currently on the market are venetian and roller blinds. Each has its fair share of pros and cons, so you’ll need to carefully weigh them up when considering which is the right choice for your windows. The good news is that both options are fairly easy to clean. Both window furnishings can be placed into a bathtub filled with warm soapy water for a deep clean, but you’ll need to be careful that you don’t loosen the glue on the roller mechanism.
Which are better for privacy?
Venetian blinds almost win here, as you can tailor the amount of light (and, thereby, the level of privacy) that’s permitted to come through by adjusting the slats. With the roller kind, on the other hand, it’s all or nothing when it comes to opening and closing them. Newer options have combined two rollers on the one mechanism, allowing you to choose a fabric that permits light through whilst maintaining privacy.
Which cost more to buy?
The answer to this question will depend on a number of factors, including how many blinds you need, what size they are and what kind of quality you desire. Both window furnishings come in a huge array of sizes and styles, as well as at a variety of price points. Always remember that you get what you pay for, so determine whether you want to pay a little bit more for longevity or whether you’re happy with going cheap.

You’ll be able to find a large variety of colours in both window furnishing types. It will, however, be harder to find venetian blinds in bold colours. They usually come in timber tones and neutrals (like white). The roller style, on the other hand, is far easier to find in a variety of colours (from reds and blues to greys and greens). This allows you to make them into a stronger statement piece for your window, too.
Which lasts longer?
This will depend on how you care for the window furnishings. The material used to make roller blinds is very durable; with proper care, they should last for many years. Venetian ones are made with high quality materials as well, but the slats can cause additional problems (as they can be prone to breaking). With good care and maintenance, either type should last for many years before needing to be replaced.
